OmeCare has validated a COVID-19 real-time PCR test in our CLIA/CAP-accredited laboratory. All testing is performed by California-licensed laboratory scientists specially-trained in performing the COVID-19 testing. All processes are completed in a BSL-2 safety level laboratory and comply with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines on social distancing and enhanced cleaning procedures.
Our COVID-19 test is the ThermoFischer TaqPathTM COVID-19 Combo Kit from Thermo Fisher Scientific (headquarters address 81 Wyman Street, Waltham, MA 02451 and telephone number 781-622-1000). For sample collection we use an EUA-authorized Spectrum Solutions SDNA-1000 Saliva Collection Device.

Any Individual wishing to have COVID-19 testing should consult with their physician or authorized healthcare provider to order the test. Once an order is obtained, the patient should have his/her authorized healthcare provider collect the specimen and submit the specimen to OmeCare.
OmeCare performs a real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (real-time RT-PCR) assay to detect the presence of SARS-CoV2.
Turnaround time for COVID-19 testing is generally 2-3 days from the receipt of the specimen at OmeCare laboratory. Most results can be ready within 48 hours but may vary depending on demand volumes and specimen quality issues.
Written test results are provided to the ordering physician or authorized healthcare provider. OmeCare may also deliver test results via our secure physician portal. All results will be reported to appropriate third parties as may be required by law (e.g., CDC, CMS, etc.).
OmeCare only accepts saliva samples collected with an FDA-EUA authorized Saliva collection device following the manufacturer-approved IFU for the collection process. Once the sample is obtained, it should be mixed with the collection media provided in the collection device, per enclosed IFU.
The collected specimen must be stored and shipped at ambient temperature with proper packaging protection within no more than 14 days prior to testing. If a delay in testing or shipping is expected, freeze specimen at -70 °C or below and ship overnight on dry ice. Upon request, OmeCare will arrange for the specimen to be shipped to its facility.
OmeCare will report COVID-19 results to the appropriate public health agency in accordance with applicable legal requirements.
